Tuya Smart Further Nourishes the Latin American IoT Market with Cloud Clients at GSMA Thrive
Dec 03, 2020

Tuya, together with local key partners Tecnolite and Nexxt, co-hosted IoT session to enhance smart business transformation using cloud and IoT technologies.

SANTA CLARA, CA—December. 4, 2020—Tuya Smart, the global leading AI+IoT Developer Platform hosted an IoT session of GSMA Thrive Latin America, together with its ecosystem partners Tecnolite Connect and Nexxt Solutions on Wednesday, December 2. Themed Strive & Thrive - From the Cloud to the Ground, the virtual session highlighted some of the key IoT success stories and shared experience by early pioneers on how the development of cloud and IoT technologies could accelerate the connectivity and smart business in the region.

Latin America is an attractive region for IoT investment because of its strong smartphone adoption rates and improving infrastructure. IoT revenue in the region is projected to grow fourfold by 2025, reaching $47.2 billion with a CAGR of 21% between 2018 and 2025, according to GSMA Intelligence. This will be fueled predominantly by applications, platforms, and services. Most of the value will be captured by those operators who can offer tailored vertical solutions that support business processes or improve productivity.

As a global Cloud Development Platform and a leading AIoT Developer Platform, Tuya is one of the very first companies to enter the Latin American market, that connects the intelligent needs of consumers, manufacturers, brands, OEMs, and retail chains. As of October 2020, the Tuya IoT Development Platform served over 230,000 developers around the world and has smart-enabled more than 200,000 products. Powered by Tuya products can be found in more than 190 countries in over 100,000 online and offline sales channels globally.”

“So far, Tuya has partnered with dozens of businesses in Latin America, including Lloyd’s, Steren, GHIA, Taurus, Positivo, Multilaser, and Geonav, to help them innovate and transform their business models to become smart business leaders, with ‘Powered by Tuya’ becoming a symbol of smart products in the region,” Johan Valbuena, Business Development Director of Tuya Colombia said. “On the Amazon e-commerce platform in Mexico and Brazil, smart products have become the best-selling products, with Lloyd’s as the best seller in the smart bulb category. We also work with retailers and operators directly, such as Sodimac and Claro Colombia, to have deep cooperation with them in developing the IoT market.”

Nexxt Solutions is one of the successful smart home brands in Latin America that has expanded their IoT product offerings through the cooperation with Tuya. Last year, Nexxt Solutions launched the integrated portfolio of smart home devices which includes smart plugs, smart power strips, smart bulbs, and complete home security kits, all of which can be monitored and managed from anywhere with the Nexxt Solutions Home App that's powered by Tuya and hosted on Microsoft Azure.

“With the support of the cloud and technology by Tuya and Microsoft, our goal is to become the largest IoT portfolio brand in Latin America, so that the experience of laying out smart homes in the region can be refined, the supports can be easily integrated, the price can be made accessible, and the security of the solutions can be ensured,” Pedro Pablo Rivas, Latin America Branding Director of Nexxt Solutions said at the roundtable session.

Now in the IoT industry, influencers are aligning on the cloud as the fundamental infrastructure. Tecnolite Connect, the largest Mexican lighting brand under Group Construlita, is another example of traditional business that has transformed itself into new a business style based on cloud. By partnering with Tuya, Tecnolite has upgraded their business model from a lighting company to smart home solutions provider, aligning with the trends of new technologies to offer safe and comfortable homes in the market.

“The connectivity provided by cloud services helps devices provide valuable information when communicating and acting in the world. Connected devices are not limited to certain devices that organizations own, but can range from personal devices that each individual uses to larger ones through internet cloud services,” said Edgar José Gómez Pérez, New Business Development Director of Tecnolite.

In addition to helping clients to launch smart products, Tuya also aims to support business partners to build their own personalized PaaS and SaaS solutions using Tuya’s Cloud Developer Platform, such as smart hotels, smart apartments, and smart security. For example, it has supported Lloyd’s for the integration of smartphone technology to its products, such as the ability to control its lighting or security solutions from mobile phone apps. By partnering with Tuya, Geonav not only launched its own smart home brand, but also expanded its business boundaries to smart hotels and smart retail, with expectations to launch smart business solutions for local business needs, such as SaaS for hotels and shopping malls in Brazil next year.

“We, together with 20,000 cloud developers, will continue to build a smart business ecosystem and provide smart business solutions for industries including security, commercial lighting, community, housing, hotel, and elderly care,” said Johnny Lu, General Manager of Tuya Latin America, Middle East, and Africa. “And we hope more partners from Latin America will become part of our ecosystem to democratize the smart home and business and make the use of the IoT easier. Most importantly, the businesses can leverage the IoT technology as value-added service that can help transform the entire industry and create a connected world.”
