IoT devices are infiltrating every aspect of our life and some of us probably can’t imagine spending a day without them anymore. The Southeast Asian market is no exception when it comes to the new world of IoT. The Internet of Things is proving to be a promising technology and we are seeing growing traction towards its adoption. Governments in the region are ramping up the deployment of large-scale smart city projects by investing in IoT infrastructure, platforms, and applications.
In order to discuss the various insights across geographies, experiences and how brands are catering to the demand in the region, Tuya Smart (NYSE: TUYA) organized the second edition of the Global IoT Press Meeting for the Southeast Asian region. With speakers from top brands like Ace Hardware Indonesia, Cherry, Schneider Electric, Smart Control Technology (SCT), and associations like the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF), the event was hosted by Ross Luo, General Manager of APAC from Tuya. Media and tech journalists from Southeast Asia also participated the event.
“We are excited to unveil the next edition of the Global IoT Press Meeting in Southeast Asia, as the region has tremendous opportunity for growth in the smart home market. Tuya being the leader in IoT space will have a major role in helping brands bring technology to the mass market. With our motto “IoT Made Easy” we believe in helping brands speed up their process to market, reduce costs and provide opportunities for category expansion and monetization,” said Mr. Luo.
He added that, “We have been working to provide smart solutions to vertical industries such as agriculture, tourism, education and so on to help them realize smart. At the same time, we are a very open platform and welcome more and more developers to come to our platform. By using our basic capabilities, we can help them develop their own customized industry solutions to suit different business scenarios. No matter which position the client is in the market, there will be synergy with Tuya.”
“Southeast Asia is a fragmented market due to different policies, languages and currencies. Engaging government regulators, showcasing new technology and products, troubleshooting hardware and providing software support are some of the strategies utilized by Tuya in the region to reach out to end-consumer,” said Charles Zhao, BD Director of South East Asia APAC for Tuya Smart.
“IoT aims to bring about a better living experience and revolutionize work processes. With greater adoption of technologies such as IoT solutions, businesses will be transformed, there will be improvement in the efficiency of employees and visibility of supply chains, assets, and operations. We are soon signing a Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with Tuya to encourage and facilitate even more Singapore companies to build these technical skillsets in their existing employees,” said Douglas Foo President of SMF.
Christina Xie, Director of Connected Systems PMO, Home and Distribution at Schneider Electric spoke about reinventing homes in an all-electric, all-digital world. She went on to say, “Schneider Electric transforms homes from smart to smart and sustainable. Working with Tuya and with Wiser, we aim to provide homes that are more sustainable, resilient, efficient and personal so that it brings your home to life.”
“Indonesia’s younger generation is high in numbers and is highly technologically aware. We are cooperating with Tuya since it acts as a bridge between the IoT cloud platform and our retail chains, thereby providing a comprehensive ecosystem empowerment from technology to marketing channels,” said Eko Widodo, Electrical Department Head of Ace Hardware Indonesia.
“We are very happy to be working with Tuya as it opens up a lot of possibilities for technological development to make life better. This partnership has created opportunities for both Cherry and Tuya as well as countless organizations and we strive to create more solutions to make life convenient and secure for a higher quality of life,” said Richard Francisco, AVP, Venture Development of Cherry.
As the first company in Singapore to provide Powered by Tuya products, SCT will leverage Tuya technology to develop not only more smart products, but also move towards SaaS solutions in smart retail shops, smart residentials, smart offices and even smart hospitals. Richard Chua, Director of SCT expressed that “I want to thank the partnership with Tuya, because with them we are able to explore many IoT products to serve our customers and our end users.”
Home to global tech leaders, Southeast Asia is a hotbed of frenzied innovation and research. IoT will play a crucial role in the development of digitalization of the region and is a key element of compositional architectures for smart cities. Ecosystem-based selling is emerging as the most sought out form of a Go-to-Market strategy by players in this space, which is fueled by higher disposable incomes and demands for smart living.
